Afghani for "soup". I just finished reading Khaled Hosseini's And The Mountains Echoed. And what
a book! I loved it! And of course, I was intrigued by "shorwa", which was mentioned a couple of times in the book. 'Shorwa e Gosht' is a traditional Afghani soup which is rich and hearty
made with meat, potatoes, tomatoes and in some cases, legumes (of which I will use small kidney and garbanzo beans). In certain parts of Afghanistan the soup is generally served in a large
communal bowl with 'nan', an Afghani flat bread, which is ripped into pieces, thrown into the soup and eaten with your hands. I recommend a big soup spoon.
